The Ridgeway

We love a challenge, and this project gave us the perfect opportunity to really flex our creative muscles. This much-loved 1930s home had only ever been lived in by two families before our client and was ready for an exciting new chapter that would support modern family life.

The transformation was significant. By increasing the footprint by almost 50% and adding a loft conversion, we were able to create a fantastic range of spaces that allow the family to come together while also enjoying quieter, more private moments throughout the home. Despite being located in a built-up part of Tonbridge, the property boasts a wonderfully long garden. However, when we first arrived, there were very few views of it and access was limited. Reconnecting the house with this beautiful outdoor space – and flooding the interior with natural light – quickly became the driving force behind the design.

The new extension now houses a stunning open-plan kitchen, dining and seating area that forms the true heart of the home. Alongside it sits a pantry, a revitalised boot and comms room, and a beautifully crafted butler’s bar that links the spaces perfectly. The former garage has even been reimagined as a golf simulation room – a brilliant and unexpected addition. But the real showstopper is the staircase. By simply shifting its location, we completely transformed the entrance hall, opening it up and allowing natural light to pour deep into the centre of the home. The result is a striking feature staircase that connects all three levels and immediately draws the eye.

Bold pops of colour inject personality and energy throughout the interiors, with a vibrant blue staircase leading up to the first floor, which now includes five bedrooms and a fantastic utility room arranged across a split landing. The loft level provides a flexible multi-purpose space with additional storage and access to a shower room, all beautifully illuminated by generous rooflights.

Sustainability and longevity were incredibly important to our client, so the home has been carefully upgraded with enhanced insulation to all external walls, while solar panels now provide a significant portion of the home’s electricity. It has been an absolute pleasure to help breathe new life into this wonderful family home!
